College Scholarship—2011 (application deadline May 15, 2011)

Funds provided to individuals in the form of need and merit-based scholarships to students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree-granting institutions.  These scholarships assist allow artistically talented individuals with financial need to pursue college and university degrees focusing on traditional or bluegrass music studies at an eligible educational institution.  Recipients must be pursuing a full-time course of study focusing on traditional or traditionally derived music such as bluegrass.  Recipients must prove full-time enrollment with good academic standing at an eligible educational institution, and must be following a course of studies focusing on traditional or bluegrass music.  Individual recipients must provide proof of full-time enrollment, grade point average, eligible area studies, and need-based eligibility.  All four criteria must be substantiated by the degree-granting institution.  The number and amount of scholarships awarded each year will depend upon the net revenues available to the Traditional Music Foundation.  These scholarship funds must be used for tuition and related fees paid to the university excluding room and board.  Individual recipients must demonstrate their progress at a Traditional Music Foundation performance event.

PLEASE NOTE:   The Traditional Music Foundation focuses on acoustic American traditional music in folk style genres.   TMF does not fund classical music or contemporary jazz studies.   Students concentrating their studies on American roots styles (including but not limited to old-time, bluegrass, traditional blues, Cajun/Zydeco, etc.) are eligible for the scholarship.

Artist Stipend—2011

Need and merit-based awards granted to qualified individuals for travel to explore or demonstrate new directions in traditional American or bluegrass musicianship. This program provides an opportunity for financially needy and artistically talented musicians to develop new skills and explore new directions in traditional and bluegrass music. Recipients must demonstrate established expertise in a traditional American style or in bluegrass music as determined by the Traditional Music Foundation Advisory Board.
